China warns US over provocative acts on south china sea

China's naval commander has warned his US counterpart against "dangerous and provocative acts", days after a US warship sailed close to contested islands in the South China Sea.

Admiral Wu Shengli said in a video conference that there was a risk that such minor incidents could spark war, according to a Navy statement.

The US said the talks were productive and that dialogue would be maintained.

China's claims in the South China Sea are contested by its Asian neighbours.

Four Iraqi men have been executed for 'spying' by ISIS militants in Iraq in a graphic new video designed to emphasise the group's ruthless use of fear and terror on civilians.

29 custom officers retired today...

After the resignation of five senior Customs officers on Thursday, the service has disclosed that another 29 senior personnel have been retired saying it is part of on-going re-organization in Nigeria Customs Service.

The retirement of the 29 officers which brings the total number to 34 senior Officers retired from the service with immediate effect, was confirmed by Wale Adeniyi, Public Relations Officer, Customs.

In a statement, Adeniyi said, “The re-organization of the Service is one of the core mandates of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd).

Mrs Aisha Buhari, commends Ambode on 150Million naira donation to IDPs.

Wife of Nigeria’s President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has commended Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos for donating N150 million to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.

The commendation is contained in a statement signed by Buhari’s Special Assistant on Media, Mrs Adebisi Ajayi, on Friday in Abuja.

Buhari said the gesture would help to ameliorate the sufferings of IDPs in various camps in the affected states as well as in their rehabilitation, and urged other states and individuals to emulate the governor.

She appealed to governors of the affected states to take measures at ensuring that children in the IDPs’ camps were properly catered for.

Edward snowden praises the EU parliament for voting against his extradition to the US..

The parliament voted 285-281 to pass a largely symbolic measure, a resolution that called on European union member states to “drop any criminal charges against Edward Snowden, grant him protection and consequently prevent extradition or rendition by third parties, in recognition of his status as whistleblower and international human rights defender”.

Snowden has lived in exile in Russia since revealing secret US government surveillance programs in June 2013.

This is not a blow against the US government, but an open hand extended by friends,” Snowden tweeted. “It is a chance to move forward.”

Plane catches fire on runway at Fort Lauderdale airport.

                       

According to CNN breaking news: A Boeing 767 caught fire while taxiing for departure Thursday at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida, a Federal Aviation Administration official said.

The pilot of an aircraft traveling behind Dynamic International Airways Flight 405 reported fuel was leaking from the aircraft before the fire started. Passengers evacuated via slides onto the taxiway.

Man sexually assaulted woman on her doorstep in Clapham, UK.

A man has been arrested for sexual assault after CCTV footage showed a woman being attacked on the doorstep of a house in Clapham, south London.

The woman was at the door shortly after 8pm on 26 October.

The alleged attacker was then seen walking past before coming towards the woman and appearing to touch her, according to the footage obtained by Mailonline.

“I just walked home, got the keys in the door, and all of a sudden, he was there. I wasn’t aware he was there until he put his hands on me,” the woman, who wants to remain anonymous, said.

“I was so afraid. That’s all I could think of. That’s all that was going through my head,” she said.

Police said they had arrested a man in connection with three sexual assaults that took place in the area on the same night.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Detectives in Lambeth investigating what is believed to be a linked series of sexual assaults in the Brixton Hill/ Clapham area on 26 October have arrested a man in connection with all three assaults.”

“He has been taken into custody at a south London police station. 

Senator Gyang Pwajok is dead, Plateau State PDP 2015 governorhip aspirant...

The Plateau State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2015 elections, Gyang Pwajok, is dead.

The Head of his media team during the electioneering, Chuwang Dung, confirmed the development to journalists in Jos, via a telephone interview.

He however said an official statement would be issued by the late Mr. Pwajok’s family later.

 Mr. Pwajok died late Wednesday in an Indian hospital.

Mr. Pwajok, a former senator, was the governorship candidate of the PDP in the 2015 general election.

He  lost the election to Simon Lalong of the All Progressives Congress.

He was also the immediate past senator for Plateau northern senatorial district.

China to end one child policy after more than 30 years.

The country's official Xinhua News Agency reports the decision by President Xi Jinping ruling Communist Party has been taken because of fears over China's aging population.

Lifting the three-decade-old one-child policy is understood to have been approved by the party’s decision-making Central Committee.

It will allow all couples to have two children

Last year, the country's top legal body, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, passed a resolution allowing couples to have two children if either parent is an only child.

China introduced its one-child policy at the end of the 1970s to keep a lid on rapid population growth.

However, the country's leaders now fear China's ageing population will reduce the labour pool and exacerbate elderly care issues.

By 2050, more than a quarter of the population will be over 65.

According to premium times, The emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sunusi II, has stripped the eldest son of the late Emir Ado Bayero, Lamido Bayero, of his traditional title of Ciroman Kano and District Head of Gwale.

PREMIUM TIMES gathered that a few months after ascending the throne, the new emir wrote to Mr. Bayero, seeking him to return to his duty as Ciroman Kano and District Head of Gwale.

Palace sources told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr. Bayero’s refusal to either reply the letter or report to the palace, angered the emir.

The issue however died down when Mr. Bayero was appointed managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

But when Mr. Bayero was recently relieved of his duty as managing director of the NPA by President Muhammadu Buhari, the emir directed the Emirate Council to write to Mr. Bayero again.

“When a letter was written to him again, he neither responded nor appeared in person to explain his reasons.

“His Highness first reasoned that the local government of Gwale was too important to be left vacant, and so he elevated the son of Emir Inuwa to be the district head.

“And now the title of Ciroma is also stripped,” a top palace source said.

Perhaps in order to douse tension in the palace, sources said, the emir however appointed Mr. Bayero’s younger brother, Nasiru Bayero, to replace him as the new Ciroman Kano.

A statement by Galadiman Kano, Abbas Sunusi, said the removal and the subsequent replacement were with immediate effect.

Mr. Bayero was touted to as the heir apparent of the Kano emirship throne but lost to the current emir, who was then holding a mid-cadre title of Dan Majen Kano.

Since losing the coveted seat to Mr. Sanusi, Mr. Lamido banished himself to Abuja and refused to pledge allegiance to the new emir as provided by the tradition.

South carolina deputy fired over student confrontation..

A South Carolina sheriff said Wednesday that he had fired a white deputy who was caught on video grabbing an African-American student, flipping her backward as she sat at her desk, then dragging and throwing her across the floor as he tried to remove her from the classroom.

The Richland County deputy, Ben Fields, was dismissed after an internal investigation concluded that he had violated department standards, said the sheriff, Leon Lott. Deputy Fields, who had been assigned to Spring Valley High School, is also a subject of a federal civil rights inquiry that could lead to criminal charges.

“Deputy Fields did not follow proper training, did not follow proper procedure, when he threw the student across the room,” Sheriff Lott said at a news conference in Columbia.

The video of the episode, which spread across social media in the hours after it happened on Monday, drew renewed attention to concerns about the treatment of African-Americans by law enforcement officers. School leaders condemned what happened, and the local school board chairman described it as “an outrageous exception to the culture, conduct and stands in which we so strongly believe in.

Thirteen people killed by Boko haram in Niger village.

Thirteen people were killed and three injured in an attack on village in south-east Niger allegedly carried out by Boko Haram extremists, local officials said Wednesday.

“Thirteen people were executed and three others suffered gunshot wounds in an attack by Boko Haram Tuesday evening in Ala village,” Malam Ligari, a local official in the Diffa region, which has been repeatedly attacked by the jihadists, told AFP.

338 boko haram captives rescued by Nigeria Army..

Nigeria army said troops at fringes of Sambisa forest have rescued about 338 people held by Boko Haram insurgents.

 In a statement issued by the Army Acting Director of Public Relations, Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman, disclosed that troops killed over 30 militants.

They also recovered arms and ammunitions during the raid operation. Which Include – one General Purpose Machine Gun and two Dane Guns, 150 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO), six boxes of 7.62mm (NATO) and three cutlasses.

Teenager who stabbed two schoolgirls leaving one blind and raped two more 'because he could not come to terms with being gay' is jailed for 17 years

According to daily mail UK; 

A teenager stabbed two schoolgirls and sexually assaulted others because he could not come to terms with his sexuality, a court heard.

Callum Stroomer left one of his victims blind following a knife attack, raped another victim, and sexually molested a fourth, in a string of offences targeting girls.

The 18-year-old, from Reading, Berkshire, revealed he stabbed the two 15-year-old girls with a kitchen knife because he wanted to know what it was like to kill someone.

He admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent and a string of sexual offences but denied attempted murder.

He was jailed for 17 years by a judge at Reading Crown Court on Friday.

The court heard during a nine-day trial Stroomer was just 17 years old was he thought about what it would be like to kill and was interested in 'violent things'. 

He stabbed the girls, who cannot be named for legal reasons, on March 1 after a row started because he refused to leave a house in Bracknell, Berkshire, it was said.

He left the victims bleeding on the floor and rang 999 reporting that two men had broken in and attacked them, the court was told.

One of the girls, giving evidence from behind a screen, said the last thing she remembered was smacking the back of her head on a kitchen cabinet and falling to the floor after being pushed by Stroomer. 

Rossano Scamardella, prosecuting, said the knife attack had left the pair with both psychological and physical injuries.

One victim was only able to walk unassisted after using a crutch for seven months. 

She was also 'troubled about being alone' and her confidence had been knocked, Mr Scamardella said.
